Crude glycerol is a liquid byproduct of biodiesel production, obtained by transesterification of fatty acids. The basic raw material used in the production is rapeseed oil, while other types of vegetable oils can be used as well.
Crude glycerol is produced by Meroco in Leopoldov, Slovakia. In the production process sodium methylate is used as catalyst.
Glycerol has a wide range of applications - it is used as animal feed ingredient, in biogas plants for methane production, in chemical, food, pharmaceutical and construction industries, etc.
